Sleep Cooler, Guaranteed

I realize that winter is creeping up and an article about sleeping hot seems out of place, but it needs to be discussed.

But first, I’ve got a bold statement to make – I will help you sleep cooler, guaranteed.

All of us have experienced a night where we slept warmer than we’d like to. A popular question I encounter is, “Will this mattress make me hot?” You know what? Contrary to what most people think, the mattress is not the root of the “sleeping hot” issue – but it is part of the solution. Solutions also include using the appropriate sheets (our Bamboo sheets are awesome!), temperature regulating mattress protectors, and maintaining a consistent bedroom temperature. But before we get too deep into the solutions, let’s discuss some of the reasons we may sleep hot.

Everyone is a little bit different in relation to heat. Let’s face it, some people are furnaces (me), and others are icecubes (my wife). Our bodies, even the icecubes, radiate heat. The mattress isn’t hot, we are. Consider this list of hot sleeping issues – hot flashes, night sweats, menopause, hormone disorders, medications, infections, and more. I won’t discuss these more than their mention, but I would recommend that if you sleep hot for a prolonged period of time, you should consult with a doctor that specializes in regulating hormone issues.

So, what can I do to help?

At the very beginning, I said I guarantee you a cooler night’s sleep. I firmly stand by that.  In fact, my store offers the largest collection of “cool” sleep solutions – mattresses, protectors, and sheets – in Lancaster County. First, let’s talk the easiest thing you could do to sleep cooler today.

If your current mattress is comfortable but warm to sleep on, this message is for you. For the past two months, I have been selling and personally sleeping on, a “guaranteed to sleep cooler” mattress protector. Breathable and waterproof, our UltraTech protector not only keeps your mattress clean and dust-mite free, it helps regulate your body temperature through moisture and heat wicking technology built into the cover. The protector fits on your existing mattress like a fitted sheet and is easily removed and laundered. So here’s Guarantee #1! I am so confident that our UltraTech protector will help you sleep cooler, that I will refund your purchase if you are dissatisfied with it.

For the rest of you, replacing your old, “hot” mattress with a new, “cool” one is the solution. Many of our most popular mattress manufacturers have built temperature regulating materials into their mattresses. Not only are these mattresses properly supportive and durable, they help maintain a regular sleep temperature. I’d like to highlight five brands in particular – Tempur-Pedic, pure LatexBLISS, Serta iComfort, The Dr. Breus Beds, and Carpe Diem Beds of Sweden.

I can hear it now, “Tempur-Pedic? I heard those things are hot!” Based on my 11 years of selling them and my 7 years of sleeping on one, that statement is simply misinformed. But, if you’ve stayed away from Tempur-Pedic due to a sleeping hot perception, I welcome you to the new Breeze Collection of Tempur-Pedic mattresses. Tempur-Pedic has taken their most popular models (Cloud Supreme Breeze and Rhapsody Breeze) and infused a cooling material into the cover and comfort layer of Tempur material to feel cooler and to draw heat away from the body. All Tempur-Pedic beds come with a 90 night comfort exchange policy.

Our pure LatexBLISS beds, made from temperature-neutral natural Talalay Latex, are now manufactured with an Active Fusion Climate Control cover and Active Fusion latex to ensure proper temperature regulation. Additionally, pure LatexBLISS offers 2” and 3” Fast Response (latex feel) and Slow Response (memory foam feel) toppers made with Active Fusion Talalay latex and covers. These would be great additions to bed surfaces that are both too firm and too hot to sleep on.

The very popular Serta iComfort and iSeries beds have been touting a cooler sleep surface for over a year now at Gardner’s. Their secret is a layer of Cool Action Memory Foam, infused with a MicroSupport Gel to create an extremely comfortable and supportive, yet cooler sleeping surface. Serta has a 120 night comfort exchange program on these two great brands.

The newest additions to the Gardner’s showroom are The Dr. Breus Beds by Comfort Solutions. Dr. Breus is a nationally recognized sleep doctor who is designing beds based around his knowledge of what his patients require in a mattress. The most important sleep component in his opinion is creating what he calls “thermo neutrality” in the sleep environment. The Dr. Breus mattresses utilize a cover fabric infused with a natural, vegetable oil based phase change material called “tempsense” to keep the sleep surface in the ideal comfort zone all night long. As you get warmer, the molecules spread out to dissipate your heat, and as you cool, the molecules contract to trap the heat energy.

Last but not least, Carpe Diem Beds of Sweden. Carpe Diem beds boast a temperature regulating aspect too. The Carpe Diem exclusive top mattress is made with temperature neutral Talalay latex, with one side wrapped in organic cotton and the other side in New Zealand lamb’s wool, allowing the sleeper to adjust their sleep surface seasonally.

Here’s Guarantee #2. On any mattress purchase made at Gardner’s through the use of our Dream Room, I will guarantee your cooler and comfortable sleep for ONE year.* [For those of you unfamiliar with the Dream Room, it is a private mattress testing room allowing you the unique opportunity to “try before you buy” any mattress in our showroom]. If you are not 100% satisfied with your mattress purchase, we’ll give you a chance to re-select one that better suits your needs. *UltraTech protector purchase required.

So, there you have it. Sleep cooler and more comfortable, guaranteed. Whether you’re an icecube or furnace in bed, I challenge you to do something about it.

To your better health through better sleep,
